On Poetry for Young Children…

I am beginning to gather, prepare, plan… and otherwise get my mind harnessed toward the mighty job…privilege… of the coming 2014/15 school year. And, O! the joy! I am sitting in the midst of piles of books. Such a place- I love. I have been working on my little boys’ items this late evening. I have parts of their first and third grade curriculum all laid out in neat piles and then… then- I gathered my supplemental books. Deep joy- going through my shelves and choosing all the well- loved books that they have not yet really encountered and piling them up, so pleased to be able to share the treasures- indeed, compelled! to share the treasures. Treasures that shaped memories, culture, family with those boys now cresting soon to be final years in our homeschool (otherwise known as high school).  In light of that, I researched some things and realized that this is the perfect, perfect year for them- for us, to dwell in Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure of a volume: A Child’s Garden of Verses.  And, my heart is so happy.

I felt compelled to list here- for any other interested readers- some of the volumes of beautiful, treasured poetry that we love so much. These are resources for the very young- through early elementary- although we did all just finish the Random House book of Poetry together last year- all from 8th grade down through K enjoying it immensely! Perhaps you will find life and joy and fun and beauty in one of these- just as we have and will continue to… and… if you have any favorites to share- I would love to learn of them in the comments! So, please don’t be shy!

15 Months

So hard to capture her… busy, busy little one. The pictures with her big brother were taken on the day of her fifteen month wellness. A photo capture of my tall ones. They are the tallest of our children. Son- reaching almost at 6 feet 1 inch, and little girl- the size of a 2 year old. 🙂

Her One Year Photo Shoot…

So much has happened… as I eluded to in my most recent post…

But I am going back in time… back to March 2014… when our darling reached her One Year Birthday. It was a difficult photo shoot 😉 but it had to be done. (grin). She was not a fan. But- we are such fans— of her.

Happy, happy birthday my darling! DSCN4190 DSCN4191 DSCN4192 DSCN4195 DSCN4198 DSCN4208 DSCN4211

I am back……!

 Psalm 40:5

Many, Lord my God,
are the wonders you have done,
the things you planned for us.
None can compare with you;
were I to speak and tell of your deeds,
they would be too many to declare.

After long, long (3 month long…) away

here I am. Again. In this space.

And I am more committed than ever to:

(excerpt from Psalm 78)

…tell to the next generation:

the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,
his power, and the wonders he has done.
He decreed statutes for Jacob
and established the law in Israel,
which he commanded our ancestors
    to teach their children,
so the next generation would know them,
even the children yet to be born,
and they in turn would tell their children.
Then they would put their trust in God
and would not forget his deeds
    but would keep his commands...

I am here and I am keeping on…

In His Grace,

Rebecca
