Sweet Sunday
Long, laid back days.
Soaking in
all these daylight hours
and
all these days,
relaxing
letting down that tax season mantle.
Letting it down
and
letting us
rest.
Leisurely meals and
Narnia (still)
walk on the Greenway-
and every child slightly
dirty
a little
bedraggled
maybe even unmatched
we are all thrown together
and I,
I for once-
don’t worry/cringe.
I joy in us
together.
There.
All relaxed and
even “thrown together”
play jeans knees open
long sleeve shirt paired with gymish shorts
Food stained baby-even a little on the face
I am that mom with mismatched kids
and smudged makeup
and clothes a-jumble-
but we are there
and
we are together.
And we are happy.
Little boys throw rocks and
they ripple
in the river.
Girl bikes joy.
Grin so hard her face is lost,
eyes shut tight
one minute from
“losing control”
but she doesn’t.
And she laughs.
And we home to stretch out in our
grass
and “play”
one fights dragons
another talks
his heart out.
Little One is
“working here”
always “workin'” when
its time to head in
To late dinner-
like a holiday-
it feels
a holiday of us
together.
Delicious
daddy made
dinner.
Spring-lit
day.
Puff clouds,
blue sky,
all’s green.
House topsy
turvy.
Tomorrow
we school
and
beat back
turvy
into some
kind of
order.
Sweet Sunday.
